Our plaster studio was engaged in plaster fabrication, including sculpting, mold making and casting new ornamental and decorative plaster elements, to replace deterioration, and fill in loss. We will also discuss ways to minimize warping and cracking and discuss proper drying methods for working with plates and bowls. In the class, we will learn how to work with plaster and clay forming techniques. This process can be used to create a myriad of shapes and sizes of plates, bowls and tumblers. We will discuss ways to add additions to the ceramic pieces that make them unique such as different ways of adding feet, rims and other unique touches. On day two of the workshop we will learn ways to use our new plaster molds through slab building and slip-casting. On the first day we will discuss ways to use the plaster molds to make serving ware such as plates, bowls and tumblers and will learn how to work in plaster. In this two-day workshop we will use plastic forms that can be purchased from a dollar store and turn them into slump and hump molds formed out of plaster for making multiples of the shape.
